Knowledge: this crab blood is worth tens of thousands of dollars

The blue color of this crab's blood comes from the copper in the blood. In humans, the iron atoms in the blood give it a dark red color.

But it's not the color that fascinates scientists.

This crab's blood contains a special chemical that traps bacteria by clotting.

This blood can detect the presence of bacteria even when there are very few of them. This frozen part is used to make a bacterial test kit.

For species from America, this test kit is named Limulus Amebocyte Lysate (LAL), while the species from Asia was named Tachypleus Amebocyte Lysate (TAL).
